EXHIBITION TEXT:
In Karton, a selection of works from Illya Goldman Gubin, we are introduced to a new but familiar path. Extending from his resinexperiments allowing fluidity to find form, now this takes the form of utility. Utility in function; resinated cardboard structures are sostiffened that they become the seats we remember as children.
Stemming from smaller prototypes accomplished in 2020, these reinforced objects have found structural integrity through serious play. The crushed and hand-formed appearance is something out of a childhood memory. Our past relation with such ever-present material as cardboard, now enters our present again. This cogni- tive jolt of reminiscence of the familiar is further fortified through Illya’s experimental practice. Resin and fibreglass bring to reality that which before only existed in our youthful imagination. Past daydreams thrust into realities.
A seat, a bench, a table; boxes stacked high call for engagement. Hardened by Illya’s signature resin and fibreglass techniques, thiscardboard material normally associated with transport and move- ment now becomes domestically stoic. While staying true to their raw aesthetic, the use or misuse of these implied objects brings new meaning. Where these cardboard parameters once contained and held in, now they support and withstand out. Movement of goods within these boxes now alludes to mental movement and support outward; interior becomes exterior and back again. What we once carried, can now carry us.
Adjoining flat wall pieces are direct references to the formed furni- ture laying in front of them. Guidelines or instructions showing that this can be built and completed again. The totality of the space is accomplished through contortions and arrangements of the sum of its components. A full body-of-work referencing itself; all we have is all we need. The cognitive boundaries of the relation to the work and even the assembly of the forms, is already present and accessible. All that’s remaining from us is a return to the curious mind. Karton is born from remembering this mindset.

"Erde" exhibition in Berlin /June 2020
EXHIBITION TEXT:
Earth is the foundation of all life; and everything that spawns from it must eventually return to its soil. From the midst of this cycle of becoming and transience, the exhibition “Erde” by Illya Goldman Gubin under the former atelier name „97cm“ sets out to explore and reflect on timeless questions: Where are we coming from? Where are we going? What are the possibilities and conditions of creation? What can we learn from nature and how can we integrate this knowledge into our modern lives? The exhibition is not providing definitive answers; rather, it conceives of the artworks as spiritual and sensory encounters.
The concept of an eternal point of origin from which creation flows forms the central motif of “Erde“. Earth, therefore, has two meanings: it is an originary world, our home planet, a giant machine providing the possibility of life. In addition, it is the soil teeming with life - a plane of immanence that is the condition of creation. „Ursprung /Erde“, a crater filled with soil and water is thus the centerpiece from which the other works are created. The soil itself is sourced from Berlin, Germany, its unique composition and richness both a testament to its interconnected location in the world and a symbol for the diversity of creation. The water in the crater is a reflective surface that looks back at the viewer, emphasizing the connectedness to nature.
The series of artworks featured in the exhibition, then, provoke visitors to feel for an essence rather than to simply observe a form. Connecting to the earth, visitors are invited to reflect on the deep, murky depths of our common origin and consider its formless simplicity. In so doing, they are able to reduce the psychological distance between individual things, realizing the arbitrariness of boundaries, and rediscovering themselves within the other. As a result, “Erde” encourages visitors to reconcile the originary world with the modernity of everyday life.
The art exhibition “Erde” marks the beginning of a new episode in Illya Goldman Gubin’s oeuvre that will focus on the exploration of time, nature, and the elements.

EXHIBITION TEXT:
Profil is the comprehension of one particular moment. It articulates the feeling of hovering between the past and the future, between everything and nothing. This very moment of cognition releases a cosmic force that lets the viewer transcend. Due to countless impressions and stimuli that our nervous system has to process in today’s society, our mind often relies on experiences in order to orient our actions towards familiar situations. Contemplating the sculpture triggers a similar mental reaction. While we are still approaching Profil, our subconscious has already programmed an experience. For each and every moment, we carry expectations within ourselves. If we touch Profil, we will recognize the illusion that our subliminal self has created and find ourselves in the unknown. The interaction with the sculpture enables us to overcome cognitive boundaries and become present. We begin to understand how much our organism is automated. By physically experiencing Profil, we create a moment of extension between our past and our future. Thus, a cosmos opens up in which we are able to examine our behavioral patterns and conventions. Through this realization, we are able to evolve as human beings.

EXHIBITION TEXT:
Juxtaposition (def) proximity, nearness in space, „contiguity“ of two variables. One variable that can be distinguished in two - both of them, independent, can function as a whole. 97cm latest project is the consequence of a perpetual process juxtaposing art and furniture, old and the new, massproduction and craftsmanship, immateriality and gravity. Tracing and breaking the perfect angles of the form and materiality of Ray and Charles Eames’ original design, 97cm blurs the line between mass-produced goods and highly individual, hand-made sculptural art and forms an object unrestrained by the perfection of Euclidean geometry. Juxtaposition challenges apparently closed systems such as industrial production, culture and nature, tradition and innovation and instead reveals them to be open towards and flowing into each other, perpetually creating something new in the process. Juxtaposition thus connects industrial production and determinism with the volatility and open-endedness of the artist’s craft. The result is a timeless visual link between the design of an everyday object and a sculpture: the latter cannot become without the former but continues to exist beyond, in its own right.

"Conscious / Unconscious" exhibition in Berlin; Installation at Baldon /August 2018; June 2019
EXHIBITION TEXT:
Conscious / Unconscious is a collaborative art exhibit, exploring the parallels between human conscious formation and unconscious impact by natural elements. This is showcased in various sculptures and canvases created using not only natural materials, but also chemical, humanly created substances. This relationship between fabric, texture, chemistry, gravity and weight shows not only the differences between conscious and unconscious creation, but also the paradox that lies within them. The pieces are heavily inspired by the beauty of nature, imperfection, real life interaction with textures, forms and textiles, rather than only a screen. The invisible space is made visible through well thought out conscious decisions. The touch of human craft brings a sense of emotion and contemplation. To capture this unique dialogue of taste, ideas and visions, the pieces were chemically treated and hardened into sculptures that in the end, took on a shape of their own, regardless of the human interaction that birthed them. This work celebrates this special moment in time and builds a visual link to the past, present and future.

This space was once forgotten. The greasy door, the rusty tools, the discarded car parts: an old repair shop, left for dead. An energy remained, however, in the cracks in the ground, in the instruments’ signs of use, between the unremembered shelves and within the mute machinery. They were specters haunting the empty halls, silently remembering a past that had a use for them. Is a tool still a tool if it is no longer utilized? What about an engine cover? Can something exist without being perceived? Reshaping the forms that were left behind, 97cm attempted to resurrect the dead. We reintegrated the decaying everyday artifacts into the cycle of nature: the symmetric becomes asymmetric, the familiar becomes unfamiliar, and dead matter comes to life. Abandoned in the past, reborn in the present, present in the future - this is now a space for rebirth.

EXHIBITION TEXT:
Our first three-dimensional, physical object. The sculpture comments on the everyday obstacles creatives face in a world dominated by consumerist logic. At the same time, the sculpture is a physical manifestation of the internalized struggle to climb the proverbial social ladder. The barbed wire disrupts the romantic notion that getting to the top simply requires one step at a time; pain, disguised as the attempt to overcome concrete obstacles established by social rules and constraints, represented by an obstacle made of literal concrete. In the process of creating the sculpture, we became the ladder: it is our combined skeletons. Our personal hopes, dreams, and challenges became manifest in a sculpture of rough materiality.

ABOUT
I G G is a Berlin-based atelier founded by Illya Goldman Gubin. Breaking the binary continuum of thinking and feeling, science and mysticism, and blurring the line between tradition and innovation, handmade and luxury goods, perfection and imperfection, Illya Goldman Gubin's installations are emphasizing the complexity of human consciousness in order to unravel a better understanding of the self. Terminologies borrowed from the judaism are pervading the art works, serving as reminiscences to the cultural imprint. Integrating the ethnical designation into the work in new and unexpected ways is the product of a permanently sincere dialog between the past, present and the future. The interference of multi perspectivity combined with self-reflection is thus creating a patchwork of sanity and new realms, merging believes and codes of the past with newly acquired knowledge. Searching for the universal key, each work is timeless - it is a bridge to more knowledge that represents the presence and paradigms. Exploring the ambiguities of modern life, challenged by the rapidly shifting conditions of our period, Illya Goldman Gubin creates multi-layered reflections of everyday perception. The artist transforms paradigms, materials, space, and time into works that invite beholders to reflect and feel. Illya Goldman Gubin captures the moment, which in turn perpetually creates other moments yet to come. The result is a body of works in a constant state of flux, encompassing art and a deeper meaning of existence to gain a complex and fuller understanding of the self, to open minds and hearts and liberate their spirit.

EXHIBITION TEXT:
In Karton, a selection of works from Illya Goldman Gubin, we are introduced to a new but familiar path. Extending from his resinexperiments allowing fluidity to find form, now this takes the form of utility. Utility in function; resinated cardboard structures are sostiffened that they become the seats we remember as children.Stemming from smaller prototypes accomplished in 2020, these reinforced objects have found structural integrity through serious play.

The crushed and hand-formed appearance is something out of a childhood memory. Our past relation with such ever-present material as cardboard, now enters our present again. This cogni- tive jolt of reminiscence of the familiar is further fortified through Illya’s experimental practice.
